Max Cavalera, frontman of Brazil's iconic metal band Sepultura. After leaving the band in 1997, he formed Soulfly. They debuted in 1998 with an album bearing the band's name. Soulfly's music, which further refined the style pursued during the Sepultura era—a fusion of heavy metal, hardcore punk, and world music influences like Brazilian rhythms—garnered significant acclaim. Their second album, ‘Primitive’, released in 2000, even reached number 32 on the Billboard charts. Since then, Soulfly has captivated many fans with their primitive, heavy albums that seem to question the very roots of music, despite undergoing numerous lineup changes.
Centering on the themes of “flame” and “cry,” ‘CHAMA’ is an album that condenses the spiritual and primal power they've built up while also showcasing a new evolution. Released this year amidst live performances with both Project Cavalera and Nailbomb, this ambitious work is a must-hear not only for Cavalera fans, but for all metal fans!
